On July 14, Wang Chaoguang, Director of the Institute of World History of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, was invited to give an online academic lecture, which was the 23rd one of a series of lectures delivered by famous teachers and scholars in the School of History and Culture. The topic of the lecture is "Research on the Political History of the Republic of China Since 1970s", and it was presided over by Professor Weng Youwei from School of History and Culture of Henan University.

In the lecture, Director Wang shared his opinions on the research of history of the Republic of China since 1970s, with an emphasis on its development since the new century. At the outset, he talked about the orientation of the study that started in 1972. It initially focused on political history. In recent years, it has gradually expanded the scope and turned to the study of general history. Then, taking books published in recent years as an example, Wang Chaoguang analyzed a series of progress in the study of history in the Republican period. Therefore, he pointed out that the crucial driving factors for the change of the orientation of the research were the convening of a large number of academic conferences and the progress of multi-directional research on history of particular subjects. Afterwards, Wang Chaoguang mainly introduced the factors that had influenced the researches in recent years. He said that there were abundant historical materials of that period of time. The publicity and enrichment of these historical data, the application of Internet platform and the change of ideas have all stimulated the expansion of the research subjects; in addition, young scholars constantly create new theses, expand new research topics, and promote the change of research trend; Interdisciplinary research has also played a role. Finally, Director Wang Chaoguang said the research on the history of the Republic of China in recent years still had shortcoming—lacking cooperation, and there were still some areas that had not been covered, so he was looking forward to making progress in the following study.

After the lecture, Director Wang Chaoguang answered the questions raised by the teachers and students in detail. Professor Weng Youwei summed up the lecture and said that it was a rare academic feast, during which Director Wang shared his original thinking and put forward some new research perspectives, methods and future research fields. The teachers and students actively participated in the lecture and benefited a lot from it. The lecture was a great success.
